Maria João Meneses from APDP Diabetes, Portugal was doing three months secondment at King’s College London KCL, UK. Her research was focused on the study of the impact of high fat and high fructose diet on a hepatic mitochondrial function of C57Bl6 mice.

On the 5th of July 2018 in Pisa, Italy was held the Project RISE FOIE GRAS Mid-term Meeting, where all project partners were present.  After a day of project research presentations and fruitful and constructive discussion with the REA representatives, participants enjoyed a sightseeing of the beautiful city of Pisa.

Nina Baur from Mediagnost, Germany spent two months at University of Lisbon, Portugal, where she worked under the guidance of Dr. Cecilia Rodrigues. At Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Lisboa she worked on measuring serum samples from mouse models in Leptin ELISA kit by Mediagnost, also miRNA extraction and analysis etc.

Theresa Thiel from Mediagnost, Germany did her one-month secondment at UC Biocant, Cantanhede, Portugal. She worked on identifying alterations in mitochondrial protein expression in an in vitro of non-Alcoholic fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) using Western Blotting for future development of multiplex kits for mitochondrial markers of mitochondrial damage.

Erich Gnaiger (Executive MiP Committee member) and Verena Laner (Extended MiP board member) from Oroboros Instruments, Austria took an active part in organizing and sponsoring the MiP 2017 / MitoEAGLE Conference, which was held from 15 – 18 November 2017 in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.
